  • Starting at Pentecost this year, I’d like to encourage as many members of St. John’s as possible to join me in the E100 reading program. E100 is 100 passages from the Bible, 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New, which give a broad overview of the scriptures as a whole. They are divided into 20 weeks of five readings, which, with a couple of holiday weeks to allow people to catch up, will take us through most of the way to Lent! (...more...)

Nooma (the name is stolen borrowed from Rob Bell’s series of short videos) is a discussion / reflection / study / prayer group meeting at 7:45pm on Tuesdays at the Manse. For the first few weeks we’ll be trying out a few different formats to see what works best!

Sorry it’s late!
- relational, legal, economic, sacrificial, military: are any of these metaphors especially helpful for your understanding of the death of Jesus? And particularly unhelpful? Any missing?
- if the death and resurrection is a cosmic event, reshaping all creation, why doesn’t the world look all that different?
- Romans 5:18 (cited by Bell) reads “Therefore just as one man’s trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man’s act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all.”
o Does this lose meaning if you don’t believe the fall as a literal story?
