  • Starting at Pentecost this year, I’d like to encourage as many members of St. John’s as possible to join me in the E100 reading program. E100 is 100 passages from the Bible, 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New, which give a broad overview of the scriptures as a whole. They are divided into 20 weeks of five readings, which, with a couple of holiday weeks to allow people to catch up, will take us through most of the way to Lent! (...more...)

Last Thursday Wahroonga park was filled with preschool kids, parents and grandparents, as we celebrated national Children’s Week with ‘A Day in the Park’. Somewhere between two and three hundred kids came through, enjoying the animal petting zoo, bubble fairy, stories, songs, gingerbread men, fruit sticks, play-doh, face painting, knox junior bands, crafts and drawing and sausage sizzle. The event was jointly hosted by the Uniting and Baptist Churches, and not even a bit of rain could put the dampers on the enthusiasm of the kids.

The last Playjays of term saw the first day warm enough to have the water table out – so it was a wet and messy morning! And it’s lovely to have morning tea outside, not to mention there being less mess to clear up!

We take three weeks off now, and Playjays will restart on October 14th.

Over the past month or two at St. John’s we’ve been starting to use elements of the Godly Play style of Christian Education – you’ll have seen hints of it in Amanda’s children’s talks, and we’ve used it at The Growing Place and at Sunday School. Godly Play is (among other things) a way of telling Biblical stories that encourages all ages to engage with, and wonder about, the Story.
If you’d like to know more about Godly Play, there are some free Godly Play experience sessions being run at UTC, North Parramatta, in October, November, and December. To find out …
