• I really can’t recommend The Turramurra Passion Play highly enough. The Play is an interactive and slightly modern interpretation of the Easter story, performed in and around the grounds of Turramurra Uniting Church. Based primarily on Luke’s Gospel from The Message translation, the play was first performed in 1999, and has developed over the following years. There are seven performances, from 23 March to 4 April. It’s free, but bookings are essential. Check out www.turramurrapassion.org.au for full details and to book.

  • ‘Nicodemus’ is an Australian musical, produced and co-written by Matthew Adams, which provides an opportunity for our local church community to invite friends and family to a Gospel event that is not only entertaining and immensely enjoyable, but which also gives the opportunity for discussion afterwards. The musical will be presented in Belrose between March 21 and March 31, 2012. For more information, see www.stmattsweb.org.au/nicodemus.

Last Thursday Wahroonga park was filled with preschool kids, parents and grandparents, as we celebrated national Children’s Week with ‘A Day in the Park’. The event was jointly hosted by the Uniting and Baptist Churches, and not even a bit of rain could put the dampers on the enthusiasm of the kids.
Big thanks to all those from St. John’s who got involved, especially Ted (BBQ), Amanda …

The last Playjays of term saw the first day warm enough to have the water table out – so it was a wet and messy morning! And it’s lovely to have morning tea outside, not to mention there being less mess to clear up!

We take three weeks off now, and Playjays will restart on October 14th.

Over the past month or two at St. John’s we’ve been starting to use elements of the Godly Play style of Christian Education – you’ll have seen hints of it in Amanda’s children’s talks, and we’ve used it at The Growing Place and at Sunday School. Godly Play is (among other things) a way of telling Biblical stories that encourages all ages to engage with, and wonder about, the Story.
If you’d like to know more about Godly Play, there are some free Godly Play experience sessions being run at UTC, North Parramatta, in October, November, and December. To find out …
