Stamps
At the beginning of 2006 the Stamp Committee of The New South Wales Synod reported that it had passed $465,000 on the sale of stamps since its inception in 1977. This figure continues to grow by around $25,000 each year.
This is an easy way to raise money for worthy projects and activities within the Uniting Church.
We at St. John’s can help in two ways:
- We can collect used stamps;
- We can prepare the stamps ready for sale.
Any stamp which is not damaged and with a clear cancellation is acceptable. Stamps which are torn, with heavy franking or cancelled by pen or biro are not acceptable.
We get more money for stamps LEFT ON ENVELOPE PAPER than those which have been pulled or soaked off. Stamps should be trimmed so that 1/8” (3mm) of single thickness envelope paper surrounds them.
Stamps can be left in the box marked “Stamps” in the Narthex.
…a personal footnote – the Stamp Committee paid the cost of the hospital chaplaincy based part of my training while I was at college – Chris
